Learn To Play Beginner Guitar Songs

Okay – it’s time for step #3 in our fits-on-a-post-it beginner’s guitar program. Ready? It’s…learning to play beginner guitar songs.

What? How can learning actual songs be number three on the Learning To Play Guitar list? Don’t I have to master some boring techniques first? Memorize scales and stuff? Have some teacher hit my knuckles with a ruler?

Well, if that floats your boat, go ahead and learn that stuff, but here’s the thing: the whole point of learning to play guitar is to have fun, right? And you’re not learning guitar in order to play scales, are you? Or to get your knuckles rapped (you sicko!).

No! You want to play some songs! I actually think it’s really important to learn how to play beginner guitar songs that you enjoy as soon as possible, no matter how crummy they might sound at first, because that’s what’s going to sustain your interest while you’re learning your instrument.

Obviously, I don’t know what your favorite songs are, but I think it’s going to be helpful for you to check out a bunch of familiar songs (even if you don’t really like some of ’em) played on the guitar, for two reasons:

1) So you can see and hear how an accomplished guitar player moves from chord to chord and strums ( at the same time, no less) while playing a familiar song

2) So you can see how just about every song really can be broken down to just guitar and voice

This playlist includes videos showing you how to play a ridiculously wide range of well-known songs to play on the guitar for beginners, and I’m pretty sure you’ll find something in here that you’ll like.

Having fun yet? I hope it’s coming as a pleasant surprise to learn just how many beginner guitar songs you can start to play with just a handful of chords. Now, though, it’s time to think about the final frontier…
